Children are born intelligent and creative. They are just overwhelmed by the demands of what we expect them to do.
Whenever she had writing homework from her school or from me, this student would grumble to me that she hated English, especially writing. She scored 57% in English and 24/40 in creative writing when I first met her. We progressed very slowly, with much persuasion and patience, to get her to write small paragraphs.
After 9 months of hard and consistent work, she finally made it to 73% in the last school Continual Assessment, with 32/40 in creative writing. Her class teacher even picked the writing to share with her class.
Thanks to parents who have trusted me and waited patiently while I slowly built the kids' interest and skills in writing. With understanding and encouraging parents, I'm sure students will be able to progress well.
